Natalie + Mike
A couple of weeks ago I headed North, up the A9 towards Pitlochry. I was headed for Faskally Wood, which some of you may know better as ‘The Enchanted Forest’ – the annual light show set in and around Loch Faskally. Lucy and I, and the kids too in recent times, have loved visiting the forest each year to take a walk around in the dark, and admire the spectacle, however I’d never actually been during the day! So when Natalie told me Mike had proposed to her there, it made perfect sense to make my first daylight experience in the wood their engagement shoot. Though admittedly, a shoot during the light show should maybe be on the old photographic bucket list!

What the photos don’t show, is the adventure it was just getting there! We were all heading up from Kirkcaldy in two separate cars, and had no idea that the drive up would be through arctic blizzards and winter wonderland scenery! I kept telling myself that battling through the snow would be worth it, because the payoff would be an epic winter woodland shoot…. Only to arrive in Pitlochry and find it completely untouched by snow. But that’s Scottish weather for you, you’re never guaranteed anything!

Still, there was a moody, brooding kind of a vibe going on, that I’m not against at all. Natalie and Mike were able guides, knowing the area better than I do, and together we braced ourselves against the cold and went exploring. These two are easy in each others company and easy company to be around, which makes the whole procedure of the shoot disarmingly simple!

I’m looking forward to their wedding at the Cow Shed in Crail this June!
